Relatives

Michael Stocker, Chairman
[from newsletter 6]

I am amazed that two years have passed since Seven Circles Foundation, Inc. received our 501(c)(3) determination - the IRS jargon for becoming a public benefit, not-for-profit corporation. In the last two years we have benefited from many private and public contributions, and accomplished quite a few things with this support--the first five editions of this newsletter being among them. Much of our administrative efforts though, have been focused on figuring out what we can do as a non-profit, and how we can accomplish our mission through our non-profit determination. With most of the processes and infrastructure in place I feel that we are ready to put our efforts into accomplishing our mission to promote and support Native American lifeways.

We have been given a set of priorities by the community: bringing elders and kids together, supporting indigenous ceremonies, and establishing a land base where we can practice and contribute to improving the quality of life for all our relatives. We have many ideas to work with, what we are lacking are folks to "step up to the plate" and start doing the work. Philanthropic work takes time and dedication, and volunteers are really appreciated--we would be nowhere without the hard work of many talented volunteers--but as a young and maturing organization, we can also design grants and programs that will require paid staff to execute. So if you have a great idea that you want to get involved in, such as taking ceremonies out to "at risk" kids, teaching Native Crafts to youngsters, or reaching out to support our elders, please come by and let us know. We have a great opportunity to see your personal mission bear fruit while propelling the mission of Seven Circles.

After two years as a growing non-profit, I want to express my profound thanks to everyone for your support, encouragement and patience. Please fell free to call me at 415 488 0553 if you have any questions, or would like to find out how you can be a part of our continued growth and prosperity.

A Ho,
Michael Stocker
